The Fifth Congress on the Foundations of Information Science will be held next summer in Russia under ISIS support

The recently launched International Society for Information Studies (ISIS) will support the fifth Congress on the Foundations of Informations Science (FIS) to be held in Moscow next summer, as envisaged in the past Congress held in Beijin 2010, where the foundations of the first Society were settled.
The ISIS was formaly founded this summer under Austrian regulation as a non-profit organisation with headquarters in Vienna, represented by scientists from all over the world, and aimed at advancing "global and collaborative studies in the sciences of information, information technology and information society as a field in its own right by boosting the elaboratingon of common conceptual frameworks the implementation of which in practice contributes to mastering the challenges of the information age" (ISIS constitutional chart).
The principles and structure of the new society was preliminary discussed in Beijin during the 2010-FIS Congress and progresively shaped in the following months. Among other missions the International Society shall be in charge of the organisation of the FIS congresses to be celebrated every two years. With the next edition of the FIS congress -started in Madrid in 1994 and also convened in Vienna and Paris-, the conference will be convened for the first time by an institution which will veil for the continuity of this fundamental scholarly event under the lidership of Kostantin Kolin (head of the Institute of Informatics Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences) who in turn is currently president of ISIS.
