Information and System as a clue for scientific unification: International Workshop on Information and Systems, Munich, January 18th 2012

As this year’s conferences in Vienna (the Bertalanffy conference -see announcement at BCSSS site - in the Weingut Reisenberger on 10th November 2011 and the von-Foerster conference at the University of Vienna from 11th through 13th November 2011) have clearly shown, the increasing convergence of research on information as well as on systems is tending to dominate recent insight into fundamental fields in physics, biology, computer science, ranging up to applications in sociology.

The Fifth Congress on the Foundations of Information Science will be held next summer in Russia under ISIS support

The recently launched International Society for Information Studies (ISIS) will support the fifth Congress on the Foundations of Informations Science (FIS) to be held in Moscow next summer, as envisaged in the past Congress held in Beijin 2010, where the foundations of the first Society were settled.

Discourse of topology, Berlin, March

In March, the meeting organized by the Institute für Design Science (Germany) and chaired by Rainer Zimmermann in Berlin (Discourse of topology: language and space in urban systems) brought to the fore some core questions of philosophy of information regarding, on the one hand, the very foundations of meaning, on the other hand, rhetorical, ethical and sociological aspects of the virtual spaces and of the information society. Regarding ScII participation –besides our colleague Zimmermann- also J.M. Díaz held a presentation on “information and urban systems”.

Interview to Rainer Zimmermann published in BITagora: understanding complexity

A new interview to our member of the Science Advisory Committe Rainer Zimmemann, author of the recently commented book on Spinoza, has been recently published in BITagora. The interview was conducted by J.M. Díaz, who met our colleague Zimmermann on the ocassion of his 60th birthday in Vienna, where both took part in a Meeting of the Bertalanffy Center for the Study of System Science chaired by Wolfgang Hofkirchner.
